Wheat and Corn

A step back in rural life, where wheat and corn were not just food, but symbols of hope and hard work. The objects you will see are witnesses to an agricultural tradition that has supported entire generations.

In front of a simple sickle, try to imagine sunny fields of wheat in June. Rows of men and women, large families all united, young people who came from neighbouring villages… all together to reap with difficulty and arrange the harvest in a wisely orderly way so that it would dry in sheaves. It was then taken to the farms and threshed. The tall corn plants, with their yellow cobs, shine in the sun… they are gathered between the rows and the baskets are filled, ready to be shelled, placing the round grains in round jute bags… Joyful songs accompanied all this work, of great effort and sacrifice. What was done when the work was finished? A big celebration in the farmyards…
